This week you continue working on stage two to your Infinite Runner Game.

You will be adding a second stage to your Infinite Runner Game. This new stage will begin when the player has reached the end of stage one (based on points, time, or other scoring mechanic). The new stage should be harder, look different, and include new features as described below. This will be your Semester Final. Your stage two is due Wednesday, December 11th. We will be play testing and ranking on Thursday, December 12th. If needed you may make corrections and resubmit your game during your final Exam period.

Requirements

  • Turn in a Stage Two Proposal form to Schoology (due 12/3)
  • The visual look of the game should change to indicate to the player that they have entered a new stage. (UI, colors, music, etc..)
  • Include a new hazard
  • Include a new power-up
  • Increase the difficulty of the game during stage two (Balance this out: Stage One should be pretty easy, stage two should be noticeably harder, but not too hard)
  • The game should end and give a final score (time survived, points, etc..)
  • Game should include all required features from previous assessments (look back at past requirement posted on this site).

Rubric

  • 10 points – Stage Two Proposal Form turned into Schoology on time (Dec. 3)
  • 15 points – Visual look of game changes to indicate stage change
  • 15 points – New hazard implemented
  • 15 points – New power-up implemented
  • 10 points – Final Score displayed at end of game (player should have a way to know how they did)
  • 20 points – Difficulty increases during stage two. Make sure stage one is pretty easy and stage two is noticeably harder, but not too hard. (I need to be able to complete the stage one in 30 seconds)
  • 15 points – Game is easy to play and fun
    • controls work well
    • instructions are given
    • good feedback to player about what they should do and how they are doing
    • They should want to play again right away

Project Timeline and Due Dates

  • Tues Dec 3 – Stage Two Proposal Form turned into Schoology
  • Wed Dec 11 – Game complete, published to tablets, and ready for play-testing
  • Thurs Dec 12 – Play-testing games
  • Thurs Dec 12 – 16 Initial grading begins (I will be playing your games and putting in initial grades)
  • Tues Dec 17th – 20th Semester Exam Class Periods – Any corrections to games must be published by the end of your Semester Exam period. Tell me if you made changes so I can update final grades.

You will be using the play-tester feedback to make changes, fixes, and improvements to your game balance. This will be the final version of level one. Due Friday 11/22

Requirements:

  • Turned in a Level One Completion List and addressed all issues fully
  • All mechanics and components we have already completed must be implemented and error free
  • All requirement from the Prototype Assignment
  • Must work well on the tablets – touch controls smooth and working
  • Game balanced (not too hard or too easy)
  • Final Artwork / UI / Models
  • Trigger an end of level UI when the player has reached a high enough score / survived long enough

Rubric

  • 10 points – Level One Completion List turned in
  • 20 points – All required features implemented
  • 20 points – UI / Menus / Instruction / Game Over / Level Complete
  • 10 points – Addressed issues in Completion List and play-testing sheets
  • 15 points – scoring system / Level Complete
  • 10 points – touch controls on tablets
  • 15 points – game balanced – This is level one, it should be fairly easy (not boring) and introduce the basic mechanics and game play

This week we will be publishing, play-testing, and refining our Infinite Runner Games.

Monday: Publish to the tablets and play-test.

Tuesday: Submit changes you want to make to the game.

Wednesday: Work day – Refine game

Thursday: Work day – Complete Refined game

Friday: Grade Refined Game (Summative)

You will be completing a summative prototype of your Infinite Runner game.

Requirements:

  • All mechanics and components we have already completed must be implemented and error free
  • Your game must end and allow for playing again and quitting
  • Final models and textures applied to your objects
  • UI showing all relevant information to the player
  • Sounds and music
  • Some sort of scoring or progress system that tells the player how they did compared to other plays
  • Must work well on the tablets – touch controls smooth and working
  • Game balanced (not too hard or too easy)

Rubric

  • 30 points – All features working error free
  • 10 points – play again/quit
  • 10 points – UI
  • 10 points – music/sound FX
  • 15 points – scoring system
  • 10 points – touch controls on tablets
  • 15 points – game balanced

This week you will be adding your win/lose, play again/Quit, sound and music, and game balancing features to your game.

Monday: No School – Veterans Day

Tuesday: Grade formative powerups. Start summative prototype.

Wednesday: Special guest speaker – Continue summative prototype

Thursday: Work day – Summative prototype

Friday: Complete Summative prototype
